How to Use DripCheckr's Virtual Try-On: Step-by-Step Tutorial

DripCheckr's virtual try-on lets you see how an outfit looks on your body before you spend a single dollar. Upload a photo of yourself, pick a garment or full outfit, and get an AI-generated preview in seconds. Here's exactly how to do it.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • DripCheckr installed on your phone (iOS or Android)
  • A free DripCheckr account (takes 30 seconds to create)
  • A photo of yourself (or you can take one in-app)

Virtual try-on uses credits. Free accounts come with credits to get started, and you can earn more or purchase additional ones. HD try-on is available with a premium upgrade.

Step 1: Open the Try-On Feature

From the DripCheckr home screen, tap the Virtual Try-On option. You'll see this on the main navigation. It takes you straight to the try-on interface.

Step 2: Upload Your Photo

You have two options:

  • Take a new photo: Use your phone camera right from the app. For best results, stand in a well-lit area with a simple background. A full-body shot works best, but the AI can handle waist-up or three-quarter shots too.
  • Choose from your gallery: Pick an existing photo from your phone. Same tips apply: good lighting, visible body, and a clean background give the best results.

Tips for the Best Results

  • Lighting matters. Natural light or even indoor lighting works well. Avoid heavy shadows across your body.
  • Stand naturally. Arms slightly away from your body gives the AI more to work with. Hands in pockets or crossed arms can affect the result.
  • Wear fitted clothes. If you're wearing a bulky hoodie, the AI has to guess your body shape under it. The more your body shape is visible, the more accurate the try-on.
  • Background. A plain wall or simple background helps. The AI will work with busy backgrounds, but cleaner backgrounds produce cleaner results.

Step 3: Choose What to Try On

After uploading your photo, you'll browse the available garments and outfits. You can filter by category:

  • Tops (shirts, tees, sweaters, jackets)
  • Bottoms (pants, jeans, shorts, skirts)
  • Full outfits (complete head-to-toe looks)
  • Shoes

You can also describe what you're looking for using text. Type something like "casual summer outfit" or "black leather jacket" and the AI will find matching options.

Pick the item or outfit you want to try. Tap it to select.

Step 4: Generate Your Try-On

Hit the try-on button and wait a few seconds. The AI processes your photo and the selected garment, generating a realistic preview of you wearing it.

What happens behind the scenes: the AI detects your body pose and proportions, digitally reshapes the clothing to match your frame, and composites the garment onto your photo with proper shadows and lighting. The result is a natural-looking image of you in the outfit. (If you want to understand the full tech, check out our post on how virtual try-on works.)

Standard vs. HD: Free credits give you standard quality try-ons, which are good enough to see how the overall look works. HD try-on (available with premium) gives you sharper details, better fabric textures, and more accurate color rendering. If you're deciding whether to actually buy something, HD is worth it.

Step 5: Review and Save

Once the try-on generates, you'll see the result full-screen. From here you can:

  • Save to your album: Keep the try-on result for later. This is great for comparing multiple outfits side by side before making a decision.
  • Try another item: Swap out the garment and generate a new try-on with the same photo. No need to re-upload.
  • Get Style Coach feedback: Tap the Style Coach option to get AI analysis of the outfit's fit, color balance, layering, and vibe. This tells you not just how it looks, but whether it works from a styling perspective.
  • Shop the Look: If you love the outfit, DripCheckr's Shop the Look breaks down each item and finds matching products you can actually buy online.
  • Share or post: Post the look to the Drip Check community for reactions, or share it with friends for a quick opinion.

Step 6: Compare Your Looks

After trying on several outfits, head to your saved albums to compare them. This is where virtual try-on really pays off. Instead of trying to remember how different outfits looked in a fitting room, you have side-by-side comparisons you can scroll through at your own pace.

This is especially useful when you're shopping and debating between multiple items. Try them all on virtually, save the results, and compare before you commit.

Common Questions

Does it work with any photo?

It works best with clear, well-lit photos where your body is visible. Group photos, extreme angles, or heavily filtered images may produce less accurate results.

Can I try on my own clothes?

The try-on catalog includes a wide range of clothing options. You can also describe specific items to find close matches in the catalog.

Is my photo stored or shared?

Your photos are processed to generate the try-on result and saved to your personal albums. DripCheckr includes face privacy options (emoji cover and blur) if you want to share looks without showing your face. Check the privacy policy for full details.

How many try-ons do I get?

Free accounts come with credits. Each try-on uses one credit. You can earn additional credits or purchase more through the app.
